History

Altered Esthetics was founded in 2004 by Jamie Schumacher to assist low-income and unrepresented artists in the Minneapolis community. Over the past ten years, Ae has changed it’s focus to meet the needs in the growing Minneapolis/St. Paul arts scene. Since 2006, we have shifted our focus from representation to arts education and community building.

Ae is operated by a volunteer board. Each member directly supports the mission and vision of the organization, not only through their fiscal support, but through voluntary management. In 2006, Ae gained 501-c3 status. With a strong internship program, professional workshops for artists, and unique educational programs, Ae has been a pillar in the Minneapolis community.
