Altered Esthetics presents The Shriving Place, a solo exhibition from Rosie Brown
a collection of sculptural works exploring the relationship between modern day marriage and the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Confession
I am intrigued by materials which have a profound connection to the elemental as well as to my own physicality such as soap, milk and calf skin. The interaction between what is highly personal with iconic or historical materials presents a wonderful chasm for research and discovery. "The Shriving Place" is a sculptural story board, offering a narrative of both personal loss as well as self discovery that is found in marriage. The resulting exhibition will document my own experience to combat perceived purity and religious standards while conflating it with my struggle for honesty, hesitance in reproach and noncomformity.
