brought to you by Altered Esthetics, The International Cartoonist Conspiracy, and Big Time Attic.
For the past 7 years, Altered Esthetics has teamed up with Big Time Attic and the International Cartoonist Conspiracy to showcase Minnesota’s energetic comic art scene. Each year we collaborate to produce a limited-edition collection of printed comics, released as the centerpiece of a comics exhibition. Our 2013 project is Rock Ink Roll, an anthology celebrating the raucous intersection of music and art.
The 128-page perfect-bound book features cover art by Xeric-winning artist Brittney Sabo, and comics by more than 30 artists, writers and musicians from across the country. Musical styles ranging from classical to punk appear in the stories, which explore a variety of storytelling genres including fantasy, realistic fiction, documentary and autobiography. We will also release an ebook version with expanded content when we run out of the printed books.
During the corresponding gallery exhibition, a selection of comics from the book and ebook will be on display at Altered Esthetics, along with other music-themed posters, prints and paintings. The opening reception on November 1st will feature live music by The Double Dollars. Join us to meet the artists and enjoy refreshments and music (please RSVP if you plan to come).
More information about the project, the curators and participating artists is available at http://www.rockinkrollcomix.com
November 1st is also the date of our annual Día de los Muertos celebration. Visitors will also have the chance to join in a candlelight vigil, and add items to our public ofrenda.
